Dear Members,

Our neighbours, Nepal, a country with a huge history, a very peace loving and simple people is struggling in the aftermath of the devasting earthquake which shook it a few days ago. The destruction is appalling and the country is still in a state of shock. While India and the rest of the world have now pooled in their relief efforts to provide much needed emergency supplies and to restore the basic infrastructure needed to get back the country on its feet, the scale of damage is too extensive for anyone to handle. In a way, for Nepal, a large part of their history has been permanently lost for posterity.

Rotary International, our parent organisation and one of the largest service organisations in the world has also decided to step in and the ball has been set in motion to provide relief in terms of men, material and money.

Rotarian Rajesh Pamnani, our clubs ambassador, who in his many visits abroad, had visited some of our sisters clubs in Nepal and is now in touch with them, has received requests for help and for joint participation in some projects. Aid which is being garnered and transported to Nepal through international effort will eventually reach them and the urban areas and the proud and hardworking Nepali people will bounce back in some time. It is the areas surrounding the cities that will look for support for life sustaining projects/institutions, which will help rebuild the lives in those areas. Our planned initiative is to work towards supporting the setting up schools in such remote areas with the association and partnership of Rotary Clubs in Nepal or through other R I programmes. This is the mission.

Funds need to be raised - approx Rs. 10-00 lakhs - being the current target - to meet the basic requirement of 2/3 schools. This can be done through individual contributions or through fund raisers. Some of our members have already made commitments (about Rs. 75,000/-) and more, I am sure will follow. Besides this, two funds raisers - sale of prints of photographs have already been planned and set in motion. The first of these events will be held on Sunday, May 3, 2015 at Sacred Space from 9-00 am onward. The collections from this sale would be entirely earmarked for this project. A second show - sale of prints - has again been scheduled for Sunday, May 10, 2015 and will most likely be held at Goethe Zentrum. Confirmation will follow.

All Contributions, both personal and through the sale proceeds from the two shows, will be routed our club account (in case of corporate donations and if they are looking for 80 G exemption through the Rotary Sunrise Trust Account) and thereafter transferred to the beneficiaries, once the full requirement are identified.

Now is the time for us to be true and generous rotarians and support these initiatives. Please do open your hearts and contribute personally, and canvass for support from friends, relatives, business associates, to this initiative. Cheques are to be drawn in favour of Rotary Club of Secunderabad Sunrise. Contributions in cash or cheque may be please be handed over to Rtn Shravan or to Rtn Chandrasekhar. (Please do write your name and contact number behind the cheque).
