Stories from The Road to Mekong

Ms. Jai Bharathi / Ms. Piya Bahadur / Ms. Shanthi - are members of The Bikerni, an association of women motorcyclists in Hyderabad. They have returned from a 17,000-kilometre motorcycle expedition from Hyderabad to Vietnam and back. The expedition, titled The Road to Mekong, was four women bikers driving across India, Myanmar, Laos, Cambodia, Thailand and Vietnam on 400cc Bajaj Dominar bikes, promoting Tourism and women’s safety through empowerment.

Bharathi - The first female to win GoUnesco Challenge in 2012, by visiting all the 28 UNESCO World Heritage Sites in India within a calendar year. She rode to Khardungla, the highest motorable road in the World in 2015 with 3 other riders from Hyderabad. Recently she has completed K2K Expedition (Kanyakumari to Kashmir) on motorbike with 3 other riders.

Piya was the Regional Director of the United States-India Education Foundation (USIEF). She has also worked on Entrepreneurship Development at The Indian School of Business (ISB), Hyderabad. Piya has a master’s degree in urban planning from the State University of New York at Buffalo, and is also the recipient of the J.N. Tata Endowment for Higher Education.

Shanti - A 2004 batch constable . Got several rewards for 1" group firing with carbon weapon, blind stripling & assembling of pistol & SLR weapons. Worked at WPS Begumpet, PS CCS,DD and now with SHE TEAMS. Shanti’s experience as a person in the department handling several cases helped in ensuring safety of the entire team while on expedition which is very crucial for the wellbeing of everyone on the trip.

Request all members to give their confirmations with numbers to ensure proper planning of food and seating. Its a not to miss presentation and I request maximum attendance for this evening.
